One Act Version Premieres In Toronto & New York
Full Length Version (2 ACTS) is presented by 7 Ontario Theatres

Formed in 2008 to present Freedom 85! at the Toronto Fringe, Hi-D Theatre SOLD OUT the run and headed for New York!

In 2009, while Tony Soprano played on Broadway, in NYC’s East Village Freedom 85! quickly won the hearts
of New Yorkers – capturing both the      Audience  Choice and See-It-Twice awards!

In February 2010, the full length version of Freedom 85! premiered at Theatre Orangeville, Orangeville, ON, then toured across the province to rave reviews.

In July 2008, the Toronto Star reported:
"Andrea Risk and Debra Hale draw us into a touching,
compelling story about aging and loss that propels us
back and forth from the present to wartime Britain;
it's funny, sad, quirky and sweet all at once."

In February 2009, Freedom 85! made its U.S.premiere at the
Frigid New York Festival, capturing the hearts of New Yorkers,
and winning the Audience Choice award and the See It Twice award.

The New York New Theater Corps said:
"Multiple characters and slice-of-life storylines transcend this short,
modest piece into an evening of thought-provoking and quality theater...
An elderly woman's fear of living alone suddenly makes sense when you see her years earlier in

WW II England, shielding herself from air raid bombs and sirens while also trying to keep her little sister safe."
